IVoltz Ltd were appointed as Principal Contractor on this project. This was the largest successful tender bid in our history and was a welcomed challenge by our Management Team.
Calling this project a re-wire really does it an injustice, the full project included the following:
Full removal of all known asbestos including subsequently uncovered asbestos, removal and renewal of 80% of the suspended ceilings and grid, full re-wire of the LV Distribution System including mains upgrade, installation of containment systems throughout, full re-wire of power and lighting including emergency lighting, full re-wire of the fire alarm, full re-wire of the data network system, full re-wire of the CCTV and construction of two new corridors through the main halls.
This project began in the summer holidays of 2021 and was handed back to the school the first week in January 2022, a full three months ahead of schedule.
Did we mention the school was never closed, the children’s planned curriculum left undisturbed and the whole thing came in under budget? We were really proud of how all the team worked on this one. It was challenging, but very very rewarding.
IVoltz Ltd are well known for their contribution to the Renewable Energy Sector but much of our Electrical Installation and Contracting works goes by unnoticed. With this project we were invited to tender on the full re-wire of a 36,500 ft2 school.
After studying the client's annual energy consumption and surveying the property, it was demonstrated that the addition of another 105kW of Solar PV would make a huge impact on annual energy consumption and the installation of a 128kWh battery storage system with 50kW charge and discharge rates would maximise the self-consumption of all sources of generation on site.
A large portion of the farms annual consumption is a result of running storage sheds with 24hr temperature control. This means renewable energy is required at all times of day. The battery system stores excess generation from all three sources and stores that until required either later that day or at night and provides the customer with full energy monitoring using the manufacturers online portal. All generation, import, export and consumption are collated, displayed and stored online giving the ability to analyse and amend usage profiles and make the most of the renewable energy generation and any off-peak rates that may be available from their energy supplier by charging the batteries from the grid during cheap periods.
Due to the importance of a reliable energy source for maintaining the farms produce, it was decided that a mains changeover switch be added to enable the farm to changeover to battery only power during a grid failure, adding an additional layer of protection to the site.
We were contacted by this family run farm to explore adding further generation to their site and help counter their ever-increasing energy bills. The farm already benefitted from a 30kW Solar PV System and a 20kW Wind Turbine, both of which they were completely happy with but fully aware that the total capacity simply wasn’t enough. The site has high periods of energy consumption arising from the need to run cooling and drying sheds as part of their seasonal works.
With plenty of roof space available it was calculated that maximising the South, East and West aspects would provide an optimum ROI for the client as well as provide a high percentage of the client's annual energy consumption. In addition to the 64kW of Installed Solar PV, IVoltz Ltd were also contracted to re-enforce the existing LV Distribution system to incorporate the addition of the Solar PV and three dual 7kW EV charging posts in the staff carpark. IVoltz were the Principal Contractor with all installation and ground works being completed under our supervision and guidance.
This carbon conscious global client were looking to make significant changes to their carbon footprint as well as counter rising energy costs and help guard against future energy price rises. Steps had already been taken to begin electrifying the company fleet meaning this client were also in need of additional EV charging infrastructure

Thank you for paving the way to a brighter, more connected future.
The roof of the building sits perfectly 45 degrees East and 45 degrees West. By utilising both roof spaces a good stream of free clean and green energy would be available for larger periods of the day by making the most of morning and evening sunshine when compared to a South facing roof. The client opted for 21.2kW of Solar PV without a battery for additional self-consumption as most of the energy was likely to be used directly. Being installed towards the end of the summer months, the client have benefitted from some great weather and have subsequently referred IVoltz Ltd to a neighbouring Surgery who are also looking to take advantage of all that Solar PV has to offer.
We were contacted by this established NHS GP Surgery to explore the possibility and feasibility of adding Solar PV to the main surgery with the aim of reducing recently hiked energy prices and help protect against further energy price rises which would likely put further pressure on already stretched services. As a commitment to the local area the management of this surgery were looking to be proactive in their approach.
This established manufacturer has seen substantial benefits from its recent investments in solar panels and mains voltage optimisation at its manufacturing facility. By installing additional photovoltaic solar panels, the company is now generating a significant portion of its own electricity, reducing its reliance on the grid and lowering operational costs. This sustainable energy source not only cuts down on carbon emissions but also protects the business from future energy price fluctuations.
In addition, the customer has installed a Voltage Optimisation Unit, a technology that regulates the incoming voltage to the most efficient level for the facility’s equipment. This optimisation reduces energy consumption, minimizes wear and tear on machinery, and improves overall efficiency. As a result, the site will experience lower electricity bills, a reduced environmental impact, and enhanced operational longevity for its equipment.
These forward-thinking investments reflect the company's commitment to sustainability, efficiency, and innovation in the manufacturing sector. By embracing renewable energy and energy-saving technologies, the company continues to position itself at the forefront of the industry while reducing its carbon footprint.
Investing in energy-saving measures like solar PV and voltage optimization is essential for manufacturing facilities due to several key needs:
Cost Reduction - Solar PV reduces energy bills by generating on-site electricity, while voltage optimization minimizes energy waste, lowering consumption.
Sustainability - Solar energy cuts carbon emissions and helps meet environmental regulations, improving corporate image and supporting sustainability goals.
Energy Security - Reduced reliance on the grid and stable voltage supply ensure reliable operations and minimize downtime.
Operational Efficiency - Optimized voltage extends equipment lifespan and boosts energy efficiency.
Long-Term Financial Gains - Solar PV and VO offer a good ROI and may benefit from government incentives.
Resilience to Future Trends - These measures mitigate energy price volatility and prepare the facility for future energy regulations.
Community Impact - Sustainable energy practices enhance employee morale and improve community relations.
The client had already invested in Solar PV with a 50kW system that also benefits from the old Feed In Tariff Scheme. This meant they already fully understood how the technology had a positive impact on their business. Adding more PV and maximising their available roof space really was a no brainer for them. Unfortunately the maximum PV capacity was limited by the existing electrical supply. This design included making use of the northerly facing roof aspects . . . . yes that's right!
Did you know . . . the North facing roof on this project is only 16.6% less efficient than the South . . . not a lot of people know that!
